Three Giants That Block the Kingdom of God

1. The Giant of Covetousness – Sippai

(1 Chronicles 20:4) The name *Sippai* means “limit” or “silver cup.” God calls us to live within His boundaries. But when we step beyond those limits and run after wealth, gold, and silver, we lose focus on the Kingdom of God.The Bible warns: “Those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare…”* (1 Timothy 6:9). Greed never satisfies; it only creates more pain, debt, and destruction. Like Saul and Balaam, many who ran after money ended in ruin.

Beloved, we brought nothing into this world and will take nothing out. Let us learn contentment and set our hearts not on material things but on the things of God. If we don’t kill this giant of greed, it will keep us from prayer, Scripture, worship, and service.

2. The Giant of Worldly Desires – Lahmi

(1 Chronicles 20:5) The second giant’s name, Lahmi, means “my bread” or “my war.” This reminds us of the danger of being ruled by food, appetite, or fleshly desires. The Kingdom of God is “not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). Yet many today are slaves to food, pleasure, or constant worry about provision.

Remember the Israelites who longed for meat in the wilderness and provoked God’s anger, or Esau who sold his birthright for a single meal. Even Satan tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread. But Daniel refused to defile himself with the king’s food, and God honored him with wisdom and blessing.Let us not be slaves to appetite but instead hunger for the Word of God, delighting in His law day and night (Psalm 1:2)

3. The Giant of Distractions – The Six-Fingered Man

(1 Chronicles 20:6) The third giant is described as a tall man with 24 fingers and toes, but his name is not given. This reminds us that beyond greed and appetite, there are many other distractions that can grow “tall” in our lives and steal our devotion to God.It could be relationships, lust, pride, entertainment, or even endless time spent on social media.

Like Solomon, who allowed women, wealth, and worldly pursuits to pull him away from God, we too can lose our first love.Anything that takes more of our time, energy, or affection than God becomes a giant in our life. We must identify these “tall giants,” destroy them, and give first place to the Kingdom of God.—

David and his men did not spare a single giant. They fought and defeated every one of them. As a result, Israel enjoyed peace and prosperity. In the same way, let us identify the giants in our lives — greed, appetite, or any distraction — and overcome them through the power of Christ. When we do, we will live as true seekers of God’s Kingdom, experiencing His blessings and peace.

May the Lord bless you richly as you overcome every giant and seek His Kingdom first. Amen!
