The Blessings of Brothers Dwelling Together
Psalm 133 shows us three blessings that come when brothers live together in unity.
✨ Introduction Christian fellowship is one of the greatest gifts God has given His children. When believers gather together, something divine happens—hearts are refreshed, the Spirit is poured out, and lives are transformed. Psalm 133 beautifully describes these blessings.
🛑 Goodness and Joy
Psalm 133:1–3 – “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity!
”When God’s children live together in unity, it brings true goodness. There are many things in the world that may seem to give benefit, but the greatest blessing comes when brothers and sisters gather together in harmony. The benefits the world gives are temporary, unstable, and will eventually fade away. But the goodness mentioned here is higher, richer, and everlasting.
The word pleasant also speaks of joy, gladness, and delight. The world offers many things that seem to give happiness—beaches, concerts, fine dining, parties, sports, and various entertainments. But do people truly experience lasting joy in these things?Here’s a question: Can people experience both goodness and joy together in the same place?
Maybe in some cases, yes. But are those things permanent? The psalm shows us that when God’s people dwell in unity, they receive both goodness and joy in a lasting way.David, though a king with access to every form of pleasure and benefit, found that nothing compared to the goodness and joy of brothers dwelling together in unity.
🛑 Anointing and Spiritual Gifts
Psalm 133:2 – “It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes.”
When oil was poured on Aaron’s head, it flowed down his beard and garments, spreading its fragrance everywhere he went. If man-made oils can be so fragrant, how much more precious was the sacred anointing oil designed by God Himself!In the same way, when brothers and sisters gather together, the Holy Spirit descends upon us, strengthening us and imparting spiritual gifts. These gifts adorn us and spread a fragrance wherever we go, bringing glory to the name of the Lord.
🛑 Transformation and Fruitfulness
Psalm 133:3 – “It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.”Mountains and hills are often barren, filled with rocks and thorns. But when the dew falls upon them, they become beautiful and fruitful.In the same way, when believers gather in unity, that fellowship transforms lives, making them fruitful and beautiful in God’s sight. Truly, our hearts are naturally hard and filled with all kinds of corruption.
The Bible says the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. But through the gathering of brothers and sisters, God changes and enriches our lives.David the king understood this secret, which is why he expressed it in song. Let us also understand this truth and not give up meeting together (Hebrews 10:25). Instead, let us encourage one another and consider the gathering of the church as a delight (Isaiah 58:13), serving the Lord with joy.

Lord, help us to love the fellowship of believers. May we always value the goodness, joy, anointing, and transformation that come from dwelling together in unity. Strengthen us to serve You faithfully in Your house and glorify Your holy name. Amen.
